The Johns Hopkins Department of Biostatistics, founded in 1918, was the first degree-granting department of statistical science in the US and has ranked among the world’s best throughout its history. Today, the Department comprises approximately 24 tenure track faculty members, 27 non-tenure track faculty, 16 postdoctoral fellows and 81 students, 46 seeking PhDs. Current areas of expertise are diverse, ranging from the real-time analysis of large, streaming data to philosophy and implementation of data science to statistical theory and methods. Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking an outstanding colleague to join our tenure track faculty at the assistant professor level. We seek an individual to strengthen us in advancing statistical and data science, making discoveries to improve health, and providing an innovative biostatistics education.
Responsibilities include methodological and collaborative research, teaching, and mentorship of graduate students. We welcome candidates across the full breadth of biostatistics, including those whose work is grounded in classical and foundational biostatistical theory and methods, as well as those working in data science, machine learning, and AI. Johns Hopkins University has recently made a transformative investment launching a Data Science and AI institute (https://ai.jhu.edu/) that will serve as the hub for interdisciplinary data collaborations with faculties and students from across Johns Hopkins and will build the nation’s foremost destination for emerging applications, opportunities and challenges presented by data science, machine learning and AI. We anticipate the individual hired into this position will have strong links with the Data Science and AI Institute.
Position Qualifications
Basic qualifications: Qualified applicants will have a doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, mathematics, computational biology, or a related field. Candidates are required to have their doctoral degree by the time the appointment begins.
Expected salary ranges: Assistant Professor $160,000-$180,000, reflecting the biostatistics and data science nature of the role. The referenced salary ranges are based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
