The Lu Lab at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, led by Dr. Junwei Lu, conducts pioneering research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and mathematics. The lab develops rigorous AI methods grounded in mathematical theory, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across AI, pure and applied mathematics, and computational science.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead cutting-edge research in developing AI methods and theoretical frameworks for mathematical problem-solving, automated theorem proving, and mathematical reasoning.
Design and implement large-scale language model and reinforcement learning systems tailored to symbolic and formal mathematical structures.
Explore the foundations of AI-driven mathematical discovery, including proof generation, conjecture formulation, and mathematical abstraction.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams spanning pure mathematics, applied mathematics, theoretical computer science, and AI.
Disseminate research findings through publications in top-tier venues and presentations at leading conferences.
Position Qualifications
A PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related field.
Strong background in theoretical and/or applied mathematics, with demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous quantitative research.
Proficiency in modern AI programming frameworks and experience with large-scale computational experiments. Experience with large language models and reinforcement learning is highly preferred. Familiarity with formal proof systems or automated reasoning is a strong plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment.
