Position Title: Goebel Professor Endowed Chair in Actuarial Science
Duties and Responsibilities: The actuarial program at The University of Iowa is the second oldest in the U.S.A. The Society of Actuaries has designated it as a Center of Actuarial Excellence and granted it University-Earned Credit status for four examinations (FM, FAM, SRM, and ALTAM). In fall of 2024, the program had 114 B.S. majors and 11 graduate students. The Goebel Professor is expected to be the leader of the program, overseeing its teaching and research missions and fostering strong industrial-academic connections with the insurance industry in the State of Iowa and elsewhere.
Position Qualifications: Applicants must be a full professor or an associate professor, who is ready for promotion to full professor, in actuarial science, with a Ph.D. in actuarial science or a relevant field. Applicants with equivalent academic qualifications such as senior industrial positions, e.g., Chief Actuary, are welcome to apply. Fellowship or Associateship of the Society of Actuaries, or equivalent, is required. Candidates must be free to assume the duties of this position and be legally able to work in the United States on August 19, 2026. Excellent communication skills are essential.
