Duties and Responsibilities

Job description
We have an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellowship in epidemiology with a particular focus on the microbiome. The fellow will contribute to research on determinants of the microbiome and the microbiome as an exposure in relation to child and adult health outcomes. The fellow will work as part of ongoing projects in the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes Data Analysis Center (ECHO DAC), as well as in the Department of Epidemiology and the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research.

The fellow will lead analyses and manuscripts on a variety of microbiome and human health projects, with a focus on early-life determinants of the microbiome and their associations with child growth, obesity, and cardiometabolic outcomes. The successful candidate will have strong methodological skills, particularly related to microbiome community data analysis, and contribute to large, multi-cohort collaborative studies as part of the ECHO DAC.

Training opportunities
The postdoctoral fellow will work with a dedicated mentor in a supportive research environment. Training in epidemiologic methods, biostatistics, and manuscript/grant writing will be provided. As part of the ECHO DAC, the fellow will be part of an experienced team of experts in epidemiology, biostatistics, and environmental health sciences. In addition, the fellow will be encouraged to pursue career development activities, present at professional conferences, and develop independent research projects and grants.

Position Qualifications

Candidate must have a PhD or equivalent graduate degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, microbial ecology or a related microbiome-science field. Programming and data management skills in R, SAS, or Stata as well as excellent writing skills are required. Additional desired qualifications include expertise in statistical approaches to microbial community data analysis. Applicants with experience in genetic epidemiology will also be considered.
