The Department of Statistics at Pusan National University (PNU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Statistics for AI, with an expected appointment date of March 1, 2027. PNU, founded in 1946 and located in Busan, is one of Korea's leading national universities.
PNU has recently been selected for a major Korean government initiative supporting flagship national universities. The multi-year initiative provides substantial support for education, research, AI infrastructure, and strategic faculty expansion. As part of this institutional initiative, PNU will launch a new College of AI in March 2027, bringing together core academic units in AI, data science, statistics, industrial engineering, and interdisciplinary AI transformation (AX).
The Department of Statistics offers both undergraduate and graduate programs and is committed to excellence in statistical theory, methodology, computation, and applications. The new College of AI will provide an expanded environment for interdisciplinary education and research across statistics, AI, data science, and application domains.
Duties and Responsibilities
Candidates are expected to (1) establish an active research program in statistics, Statistics for AI, or related areas and pursue external research funding; (2) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics and contribute to the development and modernization of the statistics curriculum; (3) contribute to the Department of Statistics' role in the Data (D) area of the new College of AI, including statistical inference, experimental design, uncertainty quantification, reliability and trustworthy AI, and related data-centric methodologies; (4) supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including Ph.D. students; and (5) contribute to departmental, college, and university service and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Position Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics by the time of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate a strong record or strong potential for high-quality research and publication, excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and the ability to develop innovative courses and collaborate across disciplines.
