Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Statistics, at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, seeks two tenure-track assistant professors with expertise in statistics and data science beginning August 16, 2027. One of the positions will have a particular emphasis on sports analytics.
The successful candidates will develop and sustain a high-quality and high-impact research program, successfully compete for external funding, and collaborate with world-class researchers at Iowa State in statistics and other disciplines. Further, the successful candidates will engage in professional and institutional service, teach graduate and undergraduate students, and advise graduate students in one of the first and largest statistics graduate programs in the country.
Position Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications:
PhD or equivalent degree in statistics or closely related discipline by appointment start date
Preferred Qualifications:
Foundational training in statistics and data science
Ability to teach statistics and data science classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Ability to develop and sustain a high-impact research program with the potential to secure external research funding
Ability to contribute to Iowa State University’s growing strength in data science
Ability to contribute to Iowa State University's growing strength in data science and, for one position, sports analytics
