The Department of Biostatistics at Brown University is one of four departments in the School of Public Health. Established in 2011, the department has an outstanding reputation for innovative research related to development and application of statistical methods for the health sciences. Department faculty teach courses and oversee both undergraduate and graduate programs in statistics and biostatistics; nearly all faculty are members of the Center for Biostatistics and Health Data Science (established in 1994), and many are affiliated with other campus research units such as the Data Science Institute, Carney Institute for Brain Sciences, Population Studies Training Center and Center for Computational Molecular Biology. The Brown School of Public Health and the broader University offer numerous opportunities for interaction and collaboration with world-class researchers in data science, public health and global health.

Duties and Responsibilities

The position will involve conducting research using large-scale healthcare-derived data sources, including electronic health records, medical claims, registries, and clinical trial data. The postdoctoral associate will work closely with Dr. Rebecca Hubbard on a broad portfolio of methodological and applied research projects spanning cancer prevention and survivorship, methods for evidence generation with real-world data, clinical risk prediction, and evaluation of artificial intelligence tools in healthcare. Relevant methodological areas include causal inference, missing data, measurement error and outcome misclassification, informative observation processes, algorithmic fairness, and machine learning.

In addition to pursuing independent research, the postdoctoral associate will contribute to multiple ongoing collaborative projects, participate in manuscript and grant development, and contribute to mentorship for junior trainees. The successful candidate will be interested in addressing complex real-world problems through a combination of methodological innovation, rigorous data analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Position Qualifications

Qualifications include a PhD degree or equivalent in biostatistics, epidemiology, statistics, data science, or related quantitative field with considerable knowledge and experience in data analysis. Candidates with experience and interest in methods for causal inference, methods for electronic health record data, and interest in conducting research at the intersection of data science and clinical epidemiology are especially encouraged to apply. Excellent oral and written and communication skills are required.
