Duties and Responsibilities
A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The postdoctoral fellow will be primarily mentored by Dr. Hongyuan Cao. Dr. Cao is also a member of the UW–Madison Cancer Center, providing a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment that accelerates innovation at the interface of data science, artificial intelligence, and real-world impact.
We seek highly motivated candidates to develop novel statistical, machine learning, and AI methods for complex biomedical data. Current research projects focus on:
• Disease progression modeling and risk prediction using longitudinal biomarkers and time-to-event outcomes.
• Statistical genetics and causal inference, including methods to distinguish direct genetic effects from environmental and familial influences using large-scale population and family-based data.
The position offers opportunities to conduct methodological research, analyze large-scale biomedical data, and collaborate with investigators across biostatistics, medicine, genetics, and public health.
Position Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, engineering, economics, or a related quantitative field. Strong programming skills in R or Python are required. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable but not required: causal inference, statistical genetics, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or high-dimensional statistics. The initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year.
