Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Statistics in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas A&M University anticipates two Visiting Assistant Professor positions to begin on August 1, 2026. Both positions will be full-time, non-tenure seeking, 9-month appointments. A PhD/DSc degree in Statistics or a related field is required. In addition to conducting outstanding research, the successful candidate will be expected to teach a mixture of undergraduate service courses, upper-level undergraduate courses, and MS-level graduate courses, as needed. They will each be responsible for teaching one course each semester to include developing written lecture notes, weekly lectures, weekly office hours, homework assignments, exams and quizzes. Instructors may teach online sections of courses offered through our Distance Learning MS program or even online sections of the undergraduate bottleneck courses, helping to expand access and reduce overloads currently borne by existing faculty.
Research duties for one position will include developing flexible Bayesian approaches to investigate how circadian rhythm disruption (CRD) affects cell composition of a tissue by using spatial clustering algorithms to the spatial transcriptomic data.
Research duties for the second position will include developing new spatial models, computational methods, and theories with application to spatial multiomics data.

The Department of Statistics has a tradition of outstanding methodological, theoretical, computational, and interdisciplinary research. Current faculty members actively collaborate with colleagues within the department, throughout the university, and at many outside institutions.
