Mental Health Data Science at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI)/Columbia University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar in Biostatistics and Data Science with emphasis in human neuroimaging. The focus of this position will be on analyzing multimodal MRI data along with biological, clinical, and behavioral measures. Mental Health Data Science provides statistical collaboration, methodological development in data analytics, and data management support for psychiatric and mental health research conducted within the Department of Psychiatry, the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene (RFMH), and NYSPI.
Duties and Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this postdoctoral fellow will be to develop AI/ML methods for neuroimaging data in developmental populations under the supervision of Dr. Seonjoo Lee, in collaboration with Drs. Melanie Wall and Yuanjia Wang. Dr. Lee is committed to fostering the trainee’s research independence through first-author publications in leading journals and mentorship in grant writing. In addition to contributing to the PI’s projects, the successful applicant will be strongly encouraged to develop and pursue independent funding through federal (e.g., NIH K awards) or foundation grants.
Position Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctoral degree (or expect to have it in few months) in statistics, biostatistics, electrical engineering, or a related field, along with a strong background in quantitative analysis. Proficiency in at least one major statistical programming language (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB) and familiarity with Unix/Linux environments are required. Experience with neuroimaging software suites (e.g., FSL, AFNI, SPM, FreeSurfer, Connectome Workbench) is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
