Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science in the School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh is inviting applications for a non-tenure track (appointment stream) position in the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning in fall 2026 or earlier. The department is actively expanding its proficiency in the field of health data science, with emphasis on areas including machine learning, artificial intelligence, clinical trials, precision health, mobile health, electronic health records, statistical genetics/genomics, network analysis, imaging data, causal inference, large-scale observational studies, and spatiotemporal statistics as applied to environmental health. Exceptional candidates with other areas of research focus will also be considered.

We are seeking applicants with a Ph.D. degree or equivalent degree in biostatistics, statistics, data science, computer science, bioinformatics, or other related quantitative disciplines. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in both methodological and collaborative applied research, participate in teaching activities, and offer mentorship to students. Created through a unique partnership with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the School of Medicine (https://www.orthonet.pitt.edu/), this position fosters interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of biostatistics, data science, and clinical research. We anticipate the candidate to collaborate with faculty from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, providing support in study conceptualization and design, data analysis, manuscript writing, professional presentations, as well as grant application development using rigorous statistical and computational techniques. In addition to this area, potential collaborative opportunities may also extend within and beyond the School of Public Health. Candidates are encouraged to develop an independent research program that builds on collaborative work. Applications are welcome from recent PhD graduates as well as postdoctoral fellows. Candidates for Associate Professor position should demonstrate a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, proven success in securing and managing external research funding, and experience in teaching and mentoring students.

Ph.D. degree or equivalent degree in biostatistics, statistics, data science, computer science, bioinformatics, or other related quantitative disciplines.
