Duties and Responsibilities
The Department Chair serves as chief administrative and academic officer of the department and is appointed by the Dean of Natural Sciences. The Chair is expected to provide visionary leadership for 19 faculty members, including 14 tenure track and 5 non-tenure track faculty and instructors, conducive to excellence in research, teaching, and outreach.
As chief representative of the department, the Chair is expected to be an individual of demonstrated scholarship, actively engaged in research, who effectively represents the department to the University and the Statistics community at large.
Position Qualifications
Required Job Qualifications:
• The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in a relevant discipline and should hold a position of Professor with tenure or have academic accomplishments that merit appointment at that rank.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Potential for visionary leadership, including the ability to craft and articulate an inspirational and holistic strategy for the future of the Department.
• Administrative experience in an academic setting, such as (but not limited to) chair or head of department or division, associate chair, or program director.
• Outstanding communication skills, including interpersonal, writing, presentation, and listening.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Demonstrated excellence in interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
• Track record of excellence in research, including success in receiving competitively-awarded competitively awarded internal and/or external research funding, and development of an internationally recognized research program.
