The Division of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) invites applications for a professor-track faculty position in the Biostatistics Program at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. We welcome applicants with a PhD (or equivalent) in biostatistics, statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
We seek scholars with training in biostatistics/statistics and demonstrated statistical thinking—the ability to translate scientific questions into quantitative frameworks, interrogate assumptions, design principled analyses, and connect methods to impact. The ideal candidate has passion for advancing methodology to solve cutting-edge biomedical questions, particularly in cancer research; can adapt to new technologies/techniques (e.g., artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)) and emerging data types (electronic health records (EHR), biobanks and disease registries, and next-generation genomics including single-cell and spatial omics); communicates clearly with colleagues in other disciplines; and values open-mindedness and bold, unbounded research ideas.
The Biostatistics Program offers a supportive environment for innovation, with deep ties across basic, clinical, and population sciences and access to rich data, computing, and collaborative teams. PHS at Fred Hutch excels in leading large-scale population and prevention studies, providing specimen- and data-rich resources that drive innovative biostatistical and statistical methods. Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead an independent, externally fundable research program pertinent to cancer or population health, with the expectation of competing for and sustaining PI-level extramural funding
• Collaborate with biomedical researchers and multidisciplinary teams across Fred Hutch, UW, and partner institutions in alignment with independent research program
• Communicate statistical concepts effectively to non-statistical audiences; promote reproducible and rigorous science
• Mentor trainees and junior scientists; contribute to graduate education and short courses as desired
• Contribute to program, division, and professional service
• Perform primary activities on-site at Fred Hutch
Position Qualifications
Required
• PhD (or equivalent) in biostatistics, statistics, or a closely related field by start date
• Solid training in biostatistics or statistics and demonstrated statistical thinking
• Evidence of research capacity (publications, software, or equivalent) with a clear plan for independent research
Preferred (strengths may vary by candidate)
• Methodological interests aligned with cancer/population health (e.g., survival/longitudinal, causal inference, high-dimensional/omics, clinical trials, EHR/real-world data, AI/ML)
• Experience with emerging data types (EHR, registries/biobanks, single-cell/spatial omics, imaging, digital/mobile health) and new technologies/techniques (AI/ML)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong willingness to collaborate with researchers in other disciplines
• Open-mindedness and enthusiasm for unbounded, innovative research ideas in a collaborative environment
• Track record of collaboration and cross-disciplinary communication
• For Associate and Full Professor candidates, a history of PI-level extramural funding is especially valued

• Full Professor: Field-leading methodological or other scientific contributions with sustained, multi-source funding; demonstrated leadership in collaborative research and program development; excellence in mentoring and training (including junior faculty/postdocs); and significant service to the department, university, and profession

Salary Range$183,641 - $324,226
