Michigan State University Center for Statistical Training & Consulting (CSTAT) – Fixed Term Statistician

We collaborate on research projects and provide statistical support to MSU scholars and off-campus clients.
Position Title: Fixed Term Statistician
Duties and Responsibilities: CSTAT support is sought by hundreds of researchers (faculty, staff, graduate students) at Michigan State University and by research collaborators from hospitals in Michigan.
We support our collaborators by providing expertise and guidance on study design, statistical methods, interpretation of results, data management, data analysis, and writing reproducible reports. We’d love you to be a part of that!
Our team members choose to work in-person or have hybrid work arrangements (telecommuting within Michigan is permitted up to 3 days per week); we appreciate a diverse team and know what it takes to ensure its success.
This is a fixed term appointment on a 12-month basis for an initial one-year period, with the possibility of annual renewal, subject to satisfactory progress and continued funding. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related quantitative field by the start of the appointment.
You will:
Collaborate with MSU faculty on grant proposals and publications; apply statistical, computational, and scientific expertise to the design, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of research studies across a wide range of disciplines; mentor MSU graduate students on statistical design and analysis; participate in developing and delivering CSTAT workshops to the general University audience.
Team members at CSTAT customize their software configurations to meet their specific needs and skillsets, but across the team the tools we are using include: R and Rstudio (most common), Quarto, MPlus, Qualtrics, SPSS, SAS, Python, SQL Server , GitHub, GitLab, and many things open science. We use a broad range of statistical methods including causal inference, multi-level models, survival analysis, high dimensional data analysis, Bayesian statistics, machine learning, and more.
Position Qualifications: We are looking for someone with broad experience in applied statistics. We’d like you to have a strong interest in learning quickly on the job, to be passionate about ongoing learning, and to value keeping up with best practices.
