University of California, Santa Cruz – Postdoctoral Fellow

Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow

Duties and Responsibilities: The post-doctoral researcher will be expected to collaborate with world-class oceanographers and publish articles advancing science at the forefront of ocean microbial and remote-sensing research, contributing to our understanding of the earth's bio/geo/chemical cycle. The science in these fields is still young, and expertise for statistical modeling is in high demand. There will be opportunities to make a tangible advance in these fields by developing novel methodology.

Position Qualifications: A postdoctoral research position is available for a highly motivated candidate with a PhD (or expected PhD) in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have a passion for developing and applying cutting-edge statistical methods to complex and exciting biological and oceanographic datasets. These datasets, including single-cell resolution flow cytometry and large-scale ocean remote sensing data, are typically large, high-dimensional, and present unique analytical challenges.

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: statistical machine learning, high-dimensional data analysis, computer science, graphical modeling, time series analysis, convex optimization, or Bayesian statistics. A demonstrated interest in or experience working with real-world datasets is essential.
