Sr. Biostatistician

Duties and Responsibilities

This individual is responsible for the statistical design and analysis of clinical and laboratory studies. Coordinates the use of standard and non-standard biostatistics or bioinformatics methodologies for the design of studies and the production of statistical analyses. Collaborates with investigators in the preparation of presentations and publications. Functions largely independently to solve problems posed by clinical and laboratory investigators with supervision by faculty members or Principal Biostatisticians.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
• Consults with clinical and laboratory investigators to determine their needs with respect to statistical design of studies and proposes appropriate designs.
• Recommends appropriate methodologic procedures for statistical analysis; Conducts data analysis.
• Performs sample size and power calculations, generates randomization schema.
• Prepares written reports of statistical analyses, including relevant statistical theory, references, methods, results, and conclusions.
• Writes statistical design, methods, and analysis sections for research proposals and clinical trial protocols.
• Prepares interim and final reports of studies, and progress reports.
• Discusses with colleagues, investigators, and supervisor the need for any additional analyses and/or special methodologic requirements.
• Participates on the Protocol Review Committee
• Keep abreast of technical and academic resources related to statistical methodology relating to study design and analyses.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, mathematics, epidemiology, or related quantitative field required.
Three (3) years of related experience required.
Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non- related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:
Five (5) years of experience is strongly preferred.
Proficiency with the statistical package SAS and/or R. Experienced in cancer clinical trials and/or other clinical research-related studies including study design and data analysis preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Expert knowledge of statistical languages, such as SAS or R.
• Knowledge of other programming languages, such as Matlab, Python, or C++, and database management (RedCap, SQL) is helpful but not required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in consulting with researchers and understanding their problems.
• Excellent writing and verbal skills in the preparation and presentation of reports.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to details are required.
