Duties and Responsibilities

Drs. Rulla Tamimi and Yushu Shi are seeking a postdoctoral fellow with interest in ‘omics types of data and health outcomes. Dr. Tamimi’s research group aims to understand biological predictors of breast cancer risk and survival by leveraging large epidemiologic studies with extensive lifestyle data and long-term follow-up. As part of previously funded work and collaborations, her group has generated high-dimensional data, including genome-wide SNP data, breast cancer gene-expression data, whole exome sequencing data, and mammographic imaging features. On the statistical methodology side, the postdoc is expected to develop novel methods for selecting key features among a large pool of potential variables that are predictive of the final outcomes with false discovery rate control. When applied to the biomedical field, these methods will enable the discovery of determinants of patient health, thus improving the prevention, treatment, and management of diseases.

This position will be jointly supported by funding from NIH National Cancer Institute (NCI) and NSF Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS). The postdoctoral researcher is anticipated to deliver presentations on scientific discoveries and method advancements at national or international conferences, as well as write first-author and co-author papers detailing the research.

Position Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology (with a quantitative focus), or a closely related field.
Proficient in R
Experience in Bayesian methods and high-dimensional feature selection is considered a plus.
