Established in April 2019, the Department of Statistics and Data Science aims to institute a world-class learning and research center. The department is committed to cultivating top-notch talents’ proactive thoughts, innovative thinking, and global vision, as well as their core skills in scientific methodologies. The department now offers two undergraduate programs: a major in Statistics and a major in Data Science and Big Data Technology. The department also offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in Probability and Statistics. Our faculty members' key specialized research areas include Mathematical Statistics, Biostatistics, Financial Statistics, and Data Science.

There are currently 220 undergraduate students, 39 M.Phil. students, and 38 Ph.D. students. As the department grows in size and strength, the number of graduate students is expected to rise substantially from the current level.

We currently have 17 full-time and four jointly appointed faculty members, comprising 3 Chair Professors, 4 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, and 8 Assistant Professors. All faculty members of the department have extensive overseas study or work experiences, including an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians, two winners of the prestigious State Natural Science Award (2nd class), two Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) Fellows, an IMS Council member, a Fellow of American Statistical Association, an IMS Medallion Lecturer, a Fellow of the Royal Statistics Society, a Fellow of the British Computer Society.

Thanks to the rich and quality resources of SUSTech, we have established the Center for Biostatistics and the Statistic Consulting Center. The Center for Financial Statistics and the Center for Data Science will also be in place in the future. By working with SUSTech Global, we provide high-quality and multi-type International Education Training and Development Plans for undergraduates and postgraduates, as well as opportunities to study in overseas universities. Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Statistics and Data Science invites applications and nominations for all ranks of tenure-track and tenured positions (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor and Chair Professor) in Statistics and Data Science, with a start date of March 2024 or after. We seek applicants with outstanding methodological foundations in Statistics and Data Science. All areas of Statistics and Data Science will receive serious consideration with special emphasis on statistics, machine learning and AI, security and privacy, data mining and HCI. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in research and a strong commitment to teaching. A doctoral degree is required at the time of appointment. Candidates for senior positions must have an established strong record of research and leadership in their research areas. The language of instruction can be either Chinese or English. Salary and start-up fund are highly competitive and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Regular faculty members (tenured and on tenure track) will be provided with housing subsidies. Candidate of national-level talent programs, tenured professor or associate professor of overseas well-known universities or research institutions, leading talent with internationally recognized achievements.

Young Faculty (Associate / Assistant professor)
Doctoral degree obtained from renowned universities and institutes; and have more than 36 months of overseas work experience, with a formal teaching or research position in overseas universities and research institutes.
