The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at UC San Diego (hwsph.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for a Teaching Professor position in Biostatistics (Full Professor rank; Senior Lecturer with Security of Employment, SrLSOE).
The HWSPH has focal areas of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Climate & Environmental Health, Community Health Services and Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Behavior, Health Equity and Justice, Health Policy, Public Mental Health, and Technology & Precision Health and offers teaching and student mentoring opportunities in our BS in Public Health, MPH, PhD in Public Health (administered jointly with SDSU), and MS and PhD in Biostatistics degree programs. Further, the School has a Preventive Medicine Residency program. The School has extensive collaborations with the School of Medicine, Moores Cancer Center, Jacobs School of Engineering, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, Rady School of Management, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, and with other partners across the UC San Diego campus. Partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School. The School is comprised of more than 125 primary faculty and academics, 25 secondary faculty, and 200 staff members and provides instruction and mentorship to over 700 BSPH majors and 225 postgraduate students, and the School’s faculty and academics hold ~$125M total awarded grants and contracts.

Position Qualifications

Teaching professors are full-time faculty who are expected to teach six 4-unit courses over the year. In addition to demonstrating excellence in teaching, individuals in this series are expected to engage in professional activities related to pedagogy and in service to the University and field. They may engage in scientific research as a principal investigator or collaborator and may hold grants.
Candidates must have a PhD, DrPH, or related doctoral degree.
Candidates must have demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate students in public health in the field of biostatistics.
Candidates with outstanding teaching evaluations and experience in mentoring public health undergraduate or graduate students are preferred.
