Assistant Clinical Professor

The University of Maryland’s University Honors program invites applications for four faculty positions to begin in Fall 2020. Each of these Assistant Clinical Professor positions offers a three-year, full-time appointment with competitive salaries and generous benefits. These faculty positions offer a rare opportunity to incubate and test innovative pedagogy, co-design and independently teach creative new courses, mentor promising and ambitious undergraduate students, all in the context of a thriving living-learning community. At the heart of the program is an innovative, multidisciplinary curriculum comprised of thematically organized courses on topics of contemporary and enduring significance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assistant Clinical Professors are involved in all aspects of the University Honors program, including:

(1) teaching, including course instruction (approx. 12 credit hours per academic year) and student mentorship both in and beyond the classroom;
(2) curriculum and program development, including course design and curriculum assessment; and
(3) participation in the life of the program (e.g., cocurricular activities).

As our curriculum will be delivered virtually in Fall 2020, online teaching will be required.

Each Assistant Clinical Professor will join a team of tenure-stream University of Maryland faculty, drawn from a variety of academic disciplines engaged in independent teaching of thematically related courses. Assistant Clinical Professors will develop and teach a 20-person seminar that draws on their disciplinary expertise and relates to this theme. For this search, we seek outstanding teacher-scholars who can contribute to one of the four themes described here:

Over the course of their 3-year appointment, each Assistant Clinical Professor will also contribute to the curriculum by teaching first-year and capstone seminars.

Position Qualifications

- Ph.D, or other terminal degree, from an accredited academic institution
- Track record of scholarly activity in field of expertise
- Experience and expertise in undergraduate teaching
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
