Position TitlePost-doctoral fellow
Department of Public Health Sciences and Division of Infectious Diseases & International Health
The Department of Public Health Sciences is seeking an exceptional candidate for a post-doctoral fellowship focused on infectious disease epidemiology. The fellow will conduct analyses using existing data from multiple international studies of enteric infectious diseases and will be involved in the design and implementation of new and ongoing studies related to enteric infections, diarrheal disease, and malnutrition among children in low-resource settings. The fellow will be expected to manage large and complex longitudinal study databases, perform statistical analyses, and prepare and publish manuscripts.
Initial projects will be conducted using data from two large observational studies of enteric disease from 15 sites globally, as well as from other interventional and surveillance studies. An example analysis project includes quantifying the potential impact of enteric vaccines on antibiotic use among children. Opportunities to write grant proposals and to develop and apply novel epidemiologic methods, including causal inference methods, are expected. Minimal international travel may be involved. The fellow will work closely with several principal investigators in the Departments of Public Health Sciences and Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases & International Health.
Required Education: PhD, DrPH, MD, or other doctoral degree in a public health related discipline such as epidemiology, biostatistics, global health, or other relevant health science field.
Required Experience: Research experience in epidemiology and/or biostatistics (study design, study management, primary data collection, data analysis). Ability to conduct epidemiologic data analysis, and demonstrated ability to prepare manuscripts, reports, and/or other scientific documents. Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to follow through on complex tasks independently with sound judgement and emotional intelligence. Experience managing clinical and/or epidemiologic databases.
Preferred Experience: First-authored peer-reviewed publications, prior research experience in infectious disease or diarrheal disease epidemiology, international research experience. Proficiency in R and/or SAS statistical programming.
