The Department of Biostatistics at Columbia University is one of the premier biostatistics departments in the nation. The department has strong collaborative connections with other departments at Columbia University, such as Computer Science, Statistics, the Program in Mathematical Genomics, and the Zuckerman Institute.
A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Biostatistics, Columbia University. Columbia University offers outstanding opportunities for training in statistical genetics and genomics. The position involves methodological and applied research in statistical genomics with Dr. Ionita-Laza. Examples of possible projects include the development of integrative statistical methods for different types of omics data, methods for whole genome sequencing data, and applications to complex diseases. The environment is multidisciplinary, involving collaborations with scientists investigating the genetics of complex diseases, such as autism and schizophrenia. Beyond Columbia, the New York area provides an excellent environment with numerous universities and the newly opened New York Genome Center.
Applicants should have a strong quantitative background, with a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, computer science or other quantitative field, and strong programming skills. Background in genetics is desirable, but not mandatory.
