Company Information: The University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth) School of Public Health at Brownsville is seeking multiple faculty members (assistant professor level) for tenure-track, 12-month appointments. Our school serves the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas and actively builds an atmosphere of diversity, inclusion, and enrichment to provide graduate education, foster research to generate new knowledge, public service to translate science into health, and increase the number of underrepresented minorities attaining graduate degrees. Competitive salary and excellent startup resources are available. We are located on the U.S./Mexico border on the lush tropical campus of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) in Brownsville.

These recruitments provide an opportunity to join a remarkable faculty and the intellectual space to develop new ideas and directions. We serve the Rio Grande Valley of Texas by addressing health disparities found in Hispanic populations. Our researchers lead unique community-based, translational research programs. Behavioral science programs use novel intervention concepts and rigorous evaluation, including initiatives in chronic care management and prevention with extensive school and community involvement. Epidemiologic studies include a representative household-based Cameron County Hispanic Cohort (n > 4,700) aged 8 years and above with extensive characterization of the sample including biological, mental health, behavioral, socioeconomic, and genetic measures. A Clinical Research Unit conducts a range of studies related to public health, including chronic and infectious diseases, with some studies conducted on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border. Researchers from our campus lead The Fels Longitudinal study, the country’s longest running cohort study, and offer opportunities for collaboration.
