Company Information: Are you interested being part of a team advancing applied statistics and data science across the agricultural, biological, physical and social sciences? The Biometry Program has a 40-year history of collaborating with students, faculty and staff on design, analysis and presentation of results for a wide variety of experiments and studies. We enable researchers to improve their statistical reasoning and data science capacity by guiding them in reproducible strategies for data analysis. The Applied Statistician/Data Scientist will be responsible for coordinating interactions with researchers for a wide portfolio of projects, with primary duty being one-on-one consulting with collaborators, and additional duties including drafting of sample analysis plans, seminars or workshops on applied statistics and data science collaboration, assistance with aspects of grant writing materials and methods.
A considerable number of researchers in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) use SAS for data management and analysis. It is important to meet this need as well as to meet growing needs for R and other language systems for a wide variety of data-rich projects. In addition, CALS is experiencing a growth in needs for molecular/omic and geospatial analysis, including both statistical and informatics expertise.
Position Title: Applied Statistician / Data Scientist
Duties and Responsibilities: Principal duties:
80%: One-on-one consulting meetings with students, faculty and staff regarding study design and data analysis for data-rich projects.
10%: Organize and extend informational material, possibly in form of seminars or workshops, on best practices for statistical and informatics software packages including SAS and R.
10%: Manage consulting and outreach activities for the Biometry Program.
Ideal candidate is able to work well with faculty, staff and students, handle multiple types of tasks and meet deadlines, and have excellent problem solving, time management, teamwork and leadership skills for frequent task shifts.
Position Qualifications: Degree and area of specialization:
Master’s Degree in statistics or a related field is required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
-One or more years of experience consulting preferred.
-Experience with one or more statistical computing languages, in particular SAS and R.
-Experience advising others on best practices with organizing and executing applied statistics and data science projects.
-Excellent professional skills to collaborate in teams and work independently.
